How to get to Moszna Castle from Wrocław, Katowice or Kraków

How to get there
The short answer: there is no direct public connection to Moszna from any of the three cities. The honest options are to drive, to take a train to Gogolin and then a taxi, or to book a door-to-door tour. By car it is roughly 1 h 25 min to 1.5 h from Wrocław, about 1.5 h from Katowice and about 2.5 h from Kraków.

Where Moszna actually is

Moszna is a village in Opole Voivodeship, in southwestern Poland, roughly 30 km south of Opole and set between Prudnik and Krapkowice. The castle address is Zamkowa 1, 47-370 Moszna. This matters for planning, because the castle is not on the edge of a city that happens to have a castle. It is in farmland, and the transport network reflects that.

By car, which is what most visitors do

From Wrocław the drive is about 111 to 125 km depending on the route, and takes roughly 1 h 25 min to an hour and a half. From Katowice it is about 114 km and around an hour and a half, which makes Katowice the shortest of the three approaches. From Kraków it is about 185 km and around two and a half hours each way, so a Kraków day trip is a five-hour round trip before you have parked. Opole, at about 30 km, is the only city close enough to make an afternoon visit relaxed.

There are about 50 parking spaces at the reception entrance, and coaches cannot park there. Parking is free for overnight guests, subject to availability. The details are on parking and dogs at Moszna Castle.

By train and taxi, which is the fastest option without a car

No station serves the village. The practical route is a train from Wrocław Główny to Gogolin and a taxi from there, which comes out at roughly 1 h 20 min door to door and is the quickest non-car option we can find. A train to Gorazdze plus a taxi also works and is slower. A bus to Opole plus a taxi is slower again. Whichever you pick, arrange the return taxi before you walk into the park: this is a village, and a cab is not going to be idling at the gate.

By tour, which removes the connection problem

Private door-to-door tours run to Moszna from all three cities, and two of them pair the castle with Pławniowice Palace, which is not reachable on the same public-transport day in any sensible way. The three options and who each one suits are set out on all Moszna Castle tours, and the city-by-city version is on day trips to Moszna Castle. Because these are private tours, the operator sets the timings; prices and dates are live on the booking panel and we do not freeze them into this page.

What works

  • Driving is the only option that gives you the park at your own pace
  • Katowice is the shortest approach of the three cities
  • The train to Gogolin plus a taxi is genuinely workable at about 1 h 20 min
  • A private tour removes both the timetable and the language problem in one booking

Worth knowing

  • No direct bus or train reaches Moszna from any of the three cities
  • Taxis do not wait at the castle, so the return leg needs arranging first
  • Coaches cannot use the car park at the reception entrance
  • Kraków means about five hours in the car for a 45 to 60 minute interior
Insider tip

Match your arrival to the schedule, not to the drive. The castle recommends visiting the chambers between 9:00 and 15:30, so a 10:00 departure from Kraków has already lost the rooms before it starts.

What time to aim for

The three parts of the site keep three different schedules, and the chambers close earliest of the three. Read the opening hours before you fix a departure time, and use how long you need to work backwards from your return journey.

Book a door-to-door trip

If the connection problem is the thing standing between you and the castle, a private tour from Wrocław is the straightforward fix. Check live dates below.

How far is Moszna Castle from Wrocław?

About 111 to 125 km by road, or roughly 1 h 25 min to an hour and a half of driving. There is no direct public connection, so the alternatives are the Gogolin train plus a taxi or a private door-to-door tour.
